Vroni and her Pegasus

Already for the third time Vroni and me have been visiting the largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea. Since we met them for the first time, our friends in Custonaci, situated in the Northwest of Sicily, have accepted us like we always would have been there. This time our trip has had a very special focus. "Pegasus" - a 11 month old Arab/Berber stallion should become a new member in our family and has to be prapared for the transportation onto the north. To endure the 1800 km distance without any injuries, Pegasus has been trained by Vroni and her friend Nadine. During these training days it was quickly clear that Pegasus is a bright dude and so he learned very fast. Beside of the preparations we certainly have been climbing on the tufa walls around San Vito lo Capo. As well a ride from Custonaci to San Vito was on the program. This would not be something special, unless I was on the ride as well. After the 20 km I could feel most of my muscles - but it was good fun..

Starting into the spring-climbing-season was, as always, a hard time and often frustrating. But in the course of time my fingers could hold some small holds again and the joy of climbing came back quickly. At the end I could climb some nice lines up to 7c on sight and 8a redpoint. As always, time flew and after two weeks it was already time for the big moment: The journey of Pegasus should start. I stayed some more days to climb together with Reini Ranner. At the same time when Pegasus was on his way, Ragno and me started into another adventure - the north face of Monte Monaco on a new route was the goal again. We climbed a wunderfull, new line on perfect rock with incredible structures and tufas. Using only 17 protection bolts, the 260 meters of "Il volo di Pegasus" 7a/7a obl. (The flight of Pegasus) tuned out to be an adventurous undertaking. I could climb the 7 pitches on sight already during the first ascent. Thus the good time in Sicily ended creditable again. By the way, Pegasus arrived safe and is settling in with his stallion friends in Pollingberg at the moment.
